Variable frequency drive selection¶
Different variable frequency drive (VFD) sizes are available for selection for different heat pumps.
P series¶
P series heat pumps have predefined VFDs selected, and the selection cannot be changed.
RE series¶
RE series has no VFDs available.
S series¶
S180 - S280¶
S180 - S280 heat pumps have only one VFD size available, and the selection cannot be changed.
S380 - S580¶
S380 - S580 heat pumps have 2 - 3 VFD sizes available. One of the sizes is a standard size for the heat pump, and the other sizes can be selected manually but will lead to the product being engineered-to-order (ETO).
S600 - S2000¶
S600 - S2000 heat pumps have several options for VFDs. The VFDs differ in various ways, such as electrical grid compatibility, certifications (EU/UL/CSA), output current, and delivery type. The VFD selection is automatic and works with the following principles:
The VFDs are filtered by the electrical grid compatibility. The VFD must be compatible with the grid selected by the user. The selected grid also determines the selected compressor motor.
The VFDs are filtered based on the maximum output current of the VFD. The maximum output current of the VFD must be large enough to accommodate the current draw of the compressor motor. The output current is derated by the altitude and ambient temperature (if necessary).
The smallest VFD that fulfills these conditions will be selected.
The user can also manually select a larger VFD.
Error
The VFD input current must not be used to select the VFD size. The VFD input current will always be smaller than the current draw of the compressor motor. It is the current draw of the compressor motor that must be used when selecting a suitable VFD size.
